Kingston College’s (KC) Bouwahjgie Nkrumie delivered on the promise he has shown throughout the season by becoming the third junior sprinter in history to secure a sub-10 clocking.

The 19-year-old produced a truly jaw-dropping display with a time of 9.99 seconds to win the gold medal in the Boys’ Class One 100m on day two of the ISSA/GracceKennedy Boys and Girls’ Athletics Championships at the National Stadium.

It represents the first time that a Jamaican junior sprinter had dipped below 10 seconds.

Only Botswana star Letsile Tebogo (9.91) and American Trayvon Bromell (9.97) have gone faster than the Jamaican as a junior.

The time is also a new Champs record and a new national junior record.

Earlier, Nkrumie – the 2022 World Under-20 silver medallist – powered home in 10.08 seconds in the semi-finals to break the previous Champs record of 10.12 set by Zharnel Hughes in 2014.

In the final, Nkrumie won well ahead of Herbert Morrison’s Deandre Daley, who finished second in 10.14. Third went to Jamaica College’s Jaiden Reid in 10.26.
