The management of Kingston Public Hospital (KPH) has expressed regret at the death of a 75-year-old male patient who fell to his death at the facility on Saturday.
In a statement on Thursday in relation to the development, the hospital said it was reported that the patient fell from the third floor of the building where his ward was located.
“Immediately following the incident, the hospital staff promptly responded,” said the KPH statement.
“The patient was taken to the Accident and Emergency (A&E) Department, where resuscitation efforts were made, but, unfortunately, were unsuccessful.
“The hospital has reached out to the patient’s relatives to inform them of his passing, and is offering counselling services to the family during this difficult time,” added the hospital’s management.
“The management team at KPH extends heartfelt condolences to the family, and is committed to providing any additional support required. A comprehensive investigation into the circumstances of this incident is currently under way, with updates to be shared with the Ministry of Health and Wellness and the Board of the South East Regional Health Authority (SERHA),” the statement continued.
The hospital’s management said the matter has been reported to the police, who are conducting an investigation.
