Morgan: Gov’t focused on continuity and strong leadership at NWA amid major road projects

Works Minister Robert Morgan says government’s focus is to ensure continuity, stability, and strong leadership at the National Works Agency (NWA) as the country advances major road infrastructure programmes.

These include: SPARK, GO, the Accelerated Bridge Programme, post-hurricane recovery works, and the ongoing reform process toward a one-road authority.

The statement by Mr. Morgan comes as he expresses appreciation to outgoing head of the National Works Agency (NWA) E.G. Hunter for his service to Jamaica.

The Minister notes that Mr. Hunter formally wrote to the Public Services Commission indicating that he does not wish to renew his contract.

Mr. Hunter has given 14 years of service to the NWA, with additional service to the National Water Commission and to the country.

The agency has begun advertising for a new CEO.

Mr. Morgan says leadership transitions in public institutions must be handled with professionalism and respect.

In the meantime, he says this is a moment to thank Mr. Hunter for his long and distinguished contribution to the development and maintenance of Jamaica’s road infrastructure.

The Minister says that throughout his career, he would have overseen and contributed to major national infrastructure initiatives, including the Southern Coastal Highway Improvement Project , SPARK, and the Major Infrastructure Development Programme, which included the dualisation of Hagley Park Road, Constant Spring Road, Mandela Highway and Marcus Garvey Drive, among others.
