Two Jamaicans are in the running for the 2022 Concacaf Player of the Year award.
Andre Blake, goalkeeper for the Reggae Boyz and the Philadelphia Union in the US Major League, is among the male nominees. Khadija Shaw, a striker for the Reggae Girlz and Manchester City in the FA Women’s Super League, is one of six finalists for the top women’s honors.
Blake is competing against Americans Tyler Adams and Christian Pulisic, Canadians Alphonso Davies and Jonathan David, as well as Mexico’s Guillermo Ochoa for the male award.
The other female nominees are Alicia Cervantes from Mexico, Melchie Dumornay from Haiti, Jessie Fleming from Canada, and Americans Alex Morgan and Sophia Smith.
The nominees were selected by taking into account performance statistics and the opinions of technical experts, according to Concacaf.
The final round of voting will last until April 13 and will involve players, coaches, media, and fans, with the results being weighted.
