A 34-year-old truck driver has succumbed to injuries he sustained in a two-vehicle crash in Hanover on Friday that first claimed the life of a US national.

The Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), the police’s information arm, confirmed that Wayne Johnson of a Caymanas Country Club Estate address in St Catherine died on Monday morning in a hospital.

Johnson had been driving an Isuzu motor truck when it collided with a car that was being driven by a US national, which veered out of control on the Round Hill main road in Hanover.

It was previously reported that 44-year-old James Martinez of Marietta, Georgia, USA died from injuries he sustained in the collision.

Reports from the Sandy Bay police are that about 6pm, Martinez was driving a Toyota Crown motorcar from Montego Bay, St James. Upon reaching a section of the Round Hill main road, he is said to have lost control of the vehicle, which collided with the Isuzu motor truck that was being driven by Johnson, that was travelling in the opposite direction.

The police were alerted and all three occupants of the Toyota Crown were taken to hospital, where Martinez was pronounced dead. Two female occupants of the car were admitted for treatment.

Johnson, who was also hospitalised, died days later.
