The St Catherine North Police have launched a major surge operation in the St John’s Road area of Spanish Town, following recent acts of criminality, including the shooting death of a mother and her son on Monday.

The deceased are 50-year-old businesswoman Georgia Coleman of St John’s Road and her 21-year-old son, Jerome Walters, a bus conductor of Railway Lane, both in Spanish Town, St Catherine.

Reports from the police are that about 7:45 pm, Coleman and Walters were sitting at the matriarch’s business establishment in the St John’s Road area when they were pounced upon by two men on a motorcycle. The men opened fire at them, hitting Walters multiple times. Coleman reportedly ran, but he was reportedly pursued by his attackers and shot. The gunmen then escaped in the area. Coleman and her son were taken to hospital where they were pronounced dead.

In a post on Twitter on Tuesday afternoon, the JCF said the surge operation in St John’s Road area will continue into the weeks to come.

“The police are asking the citizens of these communities to cooperate during the execution of these wide range of operational activities. Help us to keep you safe,” the police urged.
