Horse-of-the-Year FURTHER AND BEYOND is the horse to beat in Saturday’s Caymanas Park feature, the Viceroy Trophy at a mile, despite lugging topweight 126lb.
The scale has swung significantly against FURTHER AND BEYOND out of the Saint Cecelia Cup – I’VE GOT MAGIC getting an additional seven pounds, KING ARTHUR shedding 14lb and EXCESSIVE FORCE similarly in receipt of 14lb due to his claiming rider.
However, the four-year-old chestnut colt’s turn of foot in the Saint Cecelia Cup against similar rivals – I’VE GOT MAGIC, EXCESSIVE FORCE and KING ARTHUR – proved him a class above after powering home by a widening three-and-a-half length margin.
Last season’s Jamaica Derby and St Leger winner, CALCULUS, also faces FURTHER AND BEYOND on better terms at the scale but was blown away by the Horse-of-the-Year in their last two meetings at the back end of 2021.
December’s Ian Levy Cup at eight and a half furlongs was a similar display, a three-furlong kick, which took apart the field in 1:43.2, lowering of NIPSTER’S 2020 stakes record by a fifth.
Robert Halledeen is aboard FURTHER AND BEYOND, aiming for a third straight win with Anthony Nunes’ burly colt in the eighth of 10 races.
First post is 12:05 pm.
