Holmwood Technical High’s Cedricka Williams produced the first record of the 2023 ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls’ Athletics Championships at the National Stadium.

During the preliminary round of the Girls’ Class One discus throw, Williams threw 53.22m, breaking the previous record of 53.04m set by Fiona Richards of Edwin Allen in 2017.

Williams’ performance earned her a spot in the final, which is scheduled for Wednesday, and she is the first competitor from flight one to do so.

Williams earlier this month won the event at Central Athletics Championships with a meet record throw of 54.01m to break her previous mark of 52.91 set last year.

The preliminary round is still ongoing.
