Jody-Ann Mitchell of Holmwood Technical broke Natoya Goule’s long-standing Girls’ Class One 1500m record to retain the title on the second day of the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls’ Athletics Championships at the National Stadium on Wednesday.

Mitchell finished the race in an impressive 4 minutes 29.42 seconds (4:29.42), erasing the previous record of 4:29.81 set by Goule, a former star at Manchester High, in 2010.

Kishay Rowe from Alphansus Davis High came in second with a time of 4:30.29, and Danielle King of Hydel High secured third place with a time of 4:35.57.

In the Class Two race, Monique Stewart from defending champions Edwin Allen narrowly defeated Cindy Rose of Holmwood Technical with both athletes credited with the same time of 4:41.43. Misha-Jade Samuels from St Jago High finished third with a time of 4:53.53.

Alikay Reynolds of Alphansus Davis High won the Class Three title with a time of 4:46.36, followed by Kededra Coombs of St Jago High in second place with a time of 4:49.07, with Tabbrel Williams, also from Alphansus Davis High, finishing third with a time of 4:49.42.
