Jamaicans are being urged to brace for rainfall, starting Thursday and continuing into next week, as a broad trough currently across the western Caribbean is expected to bring increasingly unstable weather conditions.

The Meteorological Service said in a release Wednesday night that the trough is expected to remain across the Caribbean into next week.

“The forecast is for cloudy conditions with periods of showers and thunderstorms, which could be heavy at times, to affect sections of most parishes beginning Thursday and continuing into early next week,” the Met Service said.

Additionally, strong winds are expected to affect mainly southern and north-eastern parishes beginning Thursday afternoon, it said in the release.

As a result, the Met Service is urging fishers and other marine interests, especially those inshore and offshore the south coast, to exercise caution as sea conditions will deteriorate in the vicinity of showers, thunderstorms, and strong winds.

The Meteorological Service will continue to monitor this system. Check out its three-day forecast as of Friday:

Friday/Saturday: Cloudy and windy day with periods of showers and thunderstorms across most parishes.

Sunday: Cloudy day with afternoon showers and thunderstorms across sections of mainly northern and south-western parishes. Windy across southern parishes.
