TRAINER Gary Subratie’s KD ROCKET is the ante-post favourite among familiar rivals to land Sunday’s Caymanas Park ninth event at five and a half furlongs.
The speedy four-year-old gelding tried making all at six furlongs on October 16, but was cut down by ALEXA’S LODGE inside the final furlong.
After ripping splits of 22.4, 34.1 and 45.4 into the lane, KD ROCKET still had enough in the tank to hold off last Sunday’s return winner, LET HIM FLY, for second behind out-of-class ALEXA’S LODGE.
Returning against HELICOPTER, COLD PURSUIT, SILENT SEEKER, HIGH DIPLOMACY and WEEKEND JAZZ, all of whom he had behind him when beaten by ALEXA’S LODGE, KD ROCKET is expected to atone at the shorter trip.
IAMACITIZEN, STEVIE THE GREAT, NO WORK PERMIT, STRIKE AT WILL and DANNY SPUD complete the 11-horse line-up. However, none of the four has KD ROCKET’s speed.
KD ROCKET is even better drawn on Sunday than his previous outing. Breaking in mid-track with in-form Robert Halledeen, Subratie’s runner should easily take charge leaving the half-mile with no contending speed to deny him a ground-saving run into the lane.
KD ROCKET should close a double for the jockey-trainer combination with ITIZ WHAT ITIZ in the third event.
First post for the nine-race card is 12:15 pm.
