The three-day trials to select the Jamaican team for the 2023 Carifta Games, set for April 8-10 in Nassau, Bahamas, continues on Saturday at the National Stadium with the second and penultimate day.
The day will feature the finals of the 100 metres with the first one scheduled to start at 5:40 pm.
The trials will give a good indication of what to expect at the 112th staging of the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls’ Athletics Championships, popularly known as Champs, from March 28 to April 1. At Champs, defending boys’ champions Kingston College (KC) will be looking for their third title in four years and 34 overall while Edwin Allen High will be seeking their ninth straight crown and 10th overall.
The Carifta Games is arguably the biggest and most popular annual junior athletics championships in the region.
In the 49-year history of the Games, Jamaica has topped the medal table 44 times and the country’s last defeat was in 1984 when The Bahamas won at home.
Jamaica hosted the Games last year and finished with 92 medals, their best-ever medal haul, surpassing the previous best of 86, which was achieved at the 2016 Games in Grenada and equalled in 2017 in Curacao.
