A Hanover man who reportedly pointed a gun at two policemen who were responding to a report that he had assaulted someone inside his home on April 9, has been charged with assault at common-law and illegal possession of a firearm.

He is 31-year-old Jemar Cunningham of Seaview Drive, Lucea in Hanover.

According to the Lucea police, about 10:00pm on April 9, they responded to a report of an assault. On reaching the area, they saw Cunningham, who they said matched the description that was given to them.

The policemen exited their vehicle, and while approaching Cunningham, he allegedly pointed a firearm at them. The policemen responded, and they both fired in his direction.

Cunningham ran. A search of the area was conducted and he was later found with gunshot wounds to the right foot and right side.

The accused was taken to the hospital where he received treatment.
Cunningham was charged on April 15, and his court date is being finalised.
