Men held with illegal gun close to where 8 people were shot charged

Two men who were held by cops in Clarendon close to where eight people were shot dead and 9 others injured have been arrested and charged for gun possession.

The men 24-year-old Devonte Jackson a contruction worker of Cherry Tree Lane, Four Path, Clarendon and 22-year-old Rick Edwards a farmer of Lawson Boulevard, Four Path Claredon have both been charged with being in possession of a prohibited weapon and unauthorized possession of ammunition following an incident in the vicinity on Monday, August 12.

Reports from the May Pen police are that about 10:30 am, a team of poilce were conducting a joint military operation in the area and observed two motocycles entering the community.

They were stopped and one of the persons ran. A chased ensued and the lawmen caught Jackson.

A black and grey Louis Vuitton cross bag was retrieved from Jackson and it was searched by police.

A black Taurus 9mm pistol and a magazine with twelve 9mm rounds was found in the bag. He then proceeded to tell the police that he was given the bag by Edwards who denied such claims. Both were subsequently arrested and charged.

A court date is being arranged for both men.
