Road closures, traffic changes for fireworks festival

The Urban Development Corporation (UDC) has announced a series of road closures and traffic changes to accommodate the highly anticipated Fireworks Festival 2024.

These adjustments will ensure the safety and convenience of attendees while facilitating the smooth execution of the event scheduled for December 31, 2024.

 Traffic changes will commence on Sunday, December 29, 2024, at 8:00 AM.

Restrictions include no left turns onto Ocean Boulevard at the intersections with Nethersole Place and Church Street.

Barriers will be placed at strategic points to enforce these changes, while access will be maintained for essential deliveries and parking.

 On Tuesday, December 31, 2024, starting at 4:00 PM, additional adjustments will take effect.

Sections of Church Street, King Street, Peter's Lane, Orange Street, Princess Street, and West Street will be converted to two-way traffic or partially closed.

Port Royal Street will experience restricted access, including no left turns onto or from Ocean Boulevard. Barriers will be installed to guide traffic flow, ensuring safety and ease of movement during the festival.

 Normal traffic patterns will resume at midnight on January 1, 2025, for changes implemented on December 31, and by 6:00 PM on January 2, 2025, for changes that took effect on December 29.

 The Jamaica Constabulary Force which has played a key role as a valued partner of Fireworks Festivals over the years will guide traffic arrangements in Montego Bay and Ocho Rios respectively.

Motorists and pedestrians are encouraged to plan their routes in advance and try to use the routes that allows easy entry to and exit from downtown Kingston and adhere to posted signage and instructions from traffic management personnel and to stay tuned to the UDC's social media pages.

The UDC appreciates the public's cooperation as it works to deliver a safe and enjoyable festival experience.

 The Fireworks Festival 2024 will culminate in a spectacular display of pyrotechnics at midnight, illuminating the skies over Kingston, Ocho Rios, and Montego Bay.

"This finale will provide a fitting welcome to 2025, uniting attendees in celebration and hope for the year ahead," a release from UDC stated.

"The event will also feature a Kiddies and Vending Village, a street party and paid Front Row Affair.
