A Chinese supermarket operator remains hospitalised after being wounded by a man who is believed to be mentally challenged, in Christiana, Manchester on Wednesday.
Viral social media videos captured the moments when the man ‘of unsound mind’, clashed with the businessman in a dispute over alleged shoplifting.
The first video shows three men engaged in a physical tussle on the street outside the supermarket.
The mentally ill man, who appears agitated, is seen being pinned down by the Chinese man and another man.
That initial standoff reportedly took place at about 10am on Wednesday.
Hours later, the situation took a dark turn as was carried in a second video, which captures a masked man who is believed to be the same mentally ill man returning, armed with a hammer.
The footage shows the individual delivering what appears to be vicious blows to the Chinese businessman’s neck and back with the hammer, this as the Chinese man enters the supermarket.
The suspect then flees from the scene.
The Manchester police have launched a manhunt for the attacker who they theorise is the same mentally ill man who was in the earlier tussle with the Chinese man.
