The man who was taken into custody following the daylight knife attack which claimed the life of a three-year-old boy and left several persons nursing wounds along Tucker Circle in Paggee, St Mary on Wednesday, May 29, has been slapped with several major charges.

Charged with murder, wounding with intent (three counts) and unlawful wounding (two counts) is 33-year-old labourer Devon Williams of Pagee district in the parish and Main Street, West Spring Field, Massachusetts, USA.

The deceased has been identified as Asha Campbell of Fronteir district in St Mary.

Reports from the Port Maria police were that between 3:30 pm and 5pm, Williams, armed with a knife and a piece of iron pipe, inflicted several wounds to Asha and five other persons.

The injured persons were assisted to the hospital, where Asha was pronounced dead and the others were treated and released.

Williams, who was earlier accosted by residents and taken to the hospital, was handed over to the police.

He was charged on Thursday, June 6 after being pointed out on an identification parade.

Williams is scheduled to appear in the St Mary Parish Court in Port Maria on Thursday, June 13.
