Suspect shot dead as cops foil supermarket robbery in Westmoreland Loop Jamaica

A suspected would-be robber was shot dead as police in Westmoreland reportedly foiled a robbery at a Savanna-la-Mar business establishment on Sunday morning.

The deceased has been identified as 32-year-old Dwight McKenzie, who was of a Burnt Savannah address in the parish.

Reports are that about 4am, members of a police team responded to a report of a break-in at a supermarket in Savanna-la-Mar.

Upon their arrival, the police were reportedly greeted by gunfire from two men.

The police returned the fire and a wounded McKenzie was subsequently discovered.

He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Independent Commission of Investigation (INDECOM) has launched a probe into the shooting death.
