The Trelawny Municipal Corporation (TMC) is reporting that it is estimated that it will cost some $30 million to complete repairs to damage to facilities operated by the municipality which Hurricane Beryl left in its trail.
The disclosure was made by Falmouth Mayor Collen Gager at the regular monthly meeting of the corporation on Thursday.
Gager reported major damage to the roof of the Trelawny Infirmary, a bus shed at the Falmouth Transportation Centre, and the roof at the Falmouth Market.
In order to facilitate repairs at the infirmary, the 54 residents and social cases housed at the facility are now housed in the shelter at Hague Primary School.
“To date, only one shelter remains open, that is the Hague Primary School where the Trelawny Infirmary residents and the Cornwall Regional Hospital social cases are situated. The residents were unable to return to the Trelawny Infirmary because of major damage to the roof. The Trelawny Municipal Corporation is currently repairing the roof,” Gager announced.
Repair work at the infirmary is expected to be completed over the weekend.
