Tufton says Cornwall Regional Hospital nears full operation within 1-2 weeks
Health Minister, Dr. Christopher Tufton says the Cornwall Regional Hospital in St. James is on track to return to its pre-hurricane Melissa operating capacity within the next one to two weeks.
Providing an update at a media briefing in Montego Bay yesterday, Dr. Tufton said the facility has seen significant improvements since the Category 5 hurricane in October 2025.
He noted that improvements in personnel support and stronger logistical management around patient care have strengthened operations at the hospital.
Dr. Tufton also revealed that a medical dome is expected to arrive this weekend.
The structure will be installed immediately upon arrival and is projected to accommodate an additional 70 to 100 beds, further boosting the hospital’s capacity.
