Users with inappropriate names could lose access to their Uber account with the app's new safety feature
To continue creating positive experiences for everyone using its platform, Uber has introduced a new feature allowing lessor partners to report usernames that are fanciful or inappropriate.
Creators of the ride-share app revealed that some users register with names like 'Hot Steppa' and other monikers will have to change their names to continue having access to the app.
This updated feature allows lessor partners to report usernames that do not comply with the app's terms and conditions.
Uber execs revealed some of the most curious names users have tried to register with, including ‘Hot Steppa’ and ‘2Cute’, highlighting the importance of using real names to avoid losing access to accounts and to comply with the platform’s terms and conditions.
‘With this feature, our goal is to address one of the specific concerns of lessor partners, which is ensuring users register with their real names. This way, we all contribute to a community with more positive, respectful, and transparent interactions,’ said Manuela Bedoya, safety communications manager at Uber for the Andean Region, the Caribbean, and Central America.
This tool allows reporting of usernames that include sexual terms, nicknames or violent words, numbers, or special characters, inappropriate emojis, or fictional characters.
To avoid disruption. Users are urged to update their accounts. To modify or update your account name, the following steps may come in handy.
1 Open the dropdown menu in the app’s top right corner (where your photo is).
2 Select ‘Settings’.
3 Choose the section with your name, phone number, and email address, and click on ‘Edit Account’.
4 Select the ‘First Name’ section and make the necessary changes.
5 Click on the ‘Last Name’ section and make the necessary changes.
When a user is reported for having an inappropriate name that does not match their identification document, a specialized team reviews the name to take appropriate action.
The account is placed under review, and if the name is deemed inappropriate or unsuitable, the account is suspended and the user is asked to edit their name.
