Would you be willing to join with two other family members to purchase a house Through Nht
Prime Minister Andrew Holness announced in the House of Representatives recently that there will be a major change at the National Housing Trust (NHT), which will now allow up to three contributors, to apply for a two-bedroom or larger unit.
This is expected to make acquiring a house more affordable for Jamaicans, which according to Holness will be for bonafide family members, who are willing to pool their resources together.
The NHT has long been a contentious subject for Jamaicans, with the government agency, acquiring a huge pool of funds from the mandatory withdrawal of contributions from workers’ salaries, through the Pay As You Earn (PAYE) system.
This pool has been used several times by different administrations, to shore up the consolidated funds, instead of doing what it has been set up to do — provide houses for Jamaicans. This has drawn the ire of some members of the population.
