The St. James police say the murder figure so far this year is one more than recorded for the same period last year.
18 murders have been recorded so far in 2026.
Commanding Officer, Senior Superintendent Eron Samuels, says measures are being implemented to keep the number of murders down and to address domestic disputes, which are of concern.
SSP Samuels highlights that the police are undertaking interventions in the Barrett Town area, which has seen a number of incidents.
The St. James police chief says officers will be deployed into the area this weekend.
He was addressing the monthly meeting of the St. James Municipal Corporation yesterday.
