Fraudulent conversion and simple larceny charges have been laid against 59-year-old businesswoman, Cynthia Williams, of Cedar Walk, Petersfield in Westmoreland following a series of incidents in her community between November 2020, and February 2022.

Reports from the Savanna-la-Mar police indicate that Williams told a man that she could secure him an overseas work and travel opportunity for $400,000.

The man made several payments to her, but after he had paid the full amount, she was unable to provide any updates on the programme.

When he requested a refund and then visited her multiple times to collect his money, she eventually allegedly took his cell phone and threatened to have him killed.

Williams was taken into custody after the man reported the matter to the police, and she was subsequently charged.

A court date is being finalised for her.
