700,000 farmers set to benefit from US$50 million project promoting climate resilient agriculture

Some 700, 000 farmers are set to benefit from a US$50 million project promoting climate resilient agriculture.

Managing Director of the Jamaica Social Investment Fund (JSIF) Omar Sweeney made the statement today, following the announcement of the Green Climate Fund (GCF’s) approval of the project.

Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Matthew Samuda formally disclosed the project at a press briefing this morning.

The initiative is supported by JSIF, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and the Development Bank of Jamaica.

Speaking during the briefing Mr. Sweeney said the project will focus on two key aspects of climate resilience: expanding greenhouse agriculture and reducing food loss and waste.

He said the project will be implemented in Trelawny, St. Ann, St. Elizabeth, Clarendon, St. Catherine, and Manchester.
