Almost 80 persons have died from fatal crashes on the nation’s roads so far this year.
Data from the Island Traffic Authority (ITA) indicate that 79 persons have died from 73 fatal crashes since the start of the year.
Among the detail of the data are the following:
- Fatalities have decreased by 19% when compared to the year before, while fatal crashes decreased by 15%, when compared with the similar period in 2024.
- Motorcyclists account for 21 deaths or 27% of the fatalities since the start of the year.
- Pedestrians account for nineteen deaths or 24% of the fatalities since the start of the year.
- Private motor vehicle drivers account for 20 or 25% of the fatalities since the start of the year.
- Private motor vehicle passengers account for eight or 10% of the fatalities since the start of the year.
- Vulnerable road users (pedestrian, pedal cyclist, motorcyclist and pillion) collectively account for 59% of the road fatalities since the start of the year.
- Overall, passengers account for 18% of the fatalities since the start of the year.
- Males account for 82% of the road fatalities, while females account for 18% of the fatalities since the start of the year.
- The parish of St Andrew accounted for 15% of the road fatalities since the start of the year.
