An elderly woman perished in a blaze of unknown origin at her home in Westmoreland on Thursday morning.

She has been identified as 91-year-old Kaylyn Scott, who was of an Aldair, Westmoreland address.

Reports are that about 6:10 am, the Savanna-la-Mar Fire Station received a call that a house was on fire in Aldair district.

A team of firefighters responded with two units, and upon reaching the scene, saw a 12-room structure on fire.

After the fire was brought under control, the charred remains of the elderly woman were found in a room.

The fire reportedly caused significant damage to a nearby guesthouse.
