Barbados Royals suffered their fourth consecutive defeat in the 2024 Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL) as Trinbago Knight Riders secured a comfortable 30-run victory on Friday night, moving ahead of the Royals into third place on the table with 12 points and a game in hand.

The Royals, despite their strong start to the season, finished fourth, securing the final qualifying spot with 10 points from their scheduled 10 games.

St Lucia Kings lead the table with 14 points from nine matches, while Guyana Amazon Warriors sit in second place with 12 points from eight games.

After winning the toss, Royals captain Rovman Powell elected to field first at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba, Trinidad. Early breakthroughs by Maheesh Theekshana, who bowled Jason Roy for a duck, and Jason Holder, who dismissed Shaqkere Parris for five, put the Royals in a strong position. Nicholas Pooran's 27 off 15 balls briefly steadied the Knight Riders before he fell to Naveen-ul-Haq, leaving the hosts at 35 for three after four overs.

However, a middle-order recovery led by Kieron Pollard (42 off 27), Andre Russell (31 off 12), and Keacy Carty (32 off 34) propelled the Knight Riders to a competitive total of 175 for seven.

In response, the Royals struggled against Akeal Hosein, who took three for 15 from four overs, earning Player of the Match honours. Quinton de Kock (8) fell early, followed by Alick Athanaze, who top-scored with 44 off 33 balls. Despite some late boundary hitting from David Miller (30 off 15), the Royals' chase faltered as wickets tumbled under pressure, leaving them short at 145 for nine in their 20 overs.

Scores: Trinbago Knight Riders 175-7 (20 overs); Barbados Royals 145-9 (20 overs).

Saturday's schedule: 9:00 am - Guyana Amazon Warriors vs St Lucia Kings at Guyana National Stadium.
