19-y-o who killed man of unsound mind in Seaview Gardens gets ‘life’

The police are belatedly reporting that 19-year-old Rohan Davis of Cherington Road, Kingston 2, who was charged with the murder of a man of unsound mind on Yellow Sea Drive in Seaview Gardens, St Andrew on April 6, 2023, was sentenced to life imprisonment when he appeared in the Supreme Court on Monday, July 15, 2024.

The deceased is 26-year-old Gregory Smith of Yellow Sea Drive, Seaview Gardens.

Reports from the Hunts Bay police are that about 8:25 am on the day of the incident, Smith was sitting on the roadway, where he was pounced upon by Davis, who shot him.

The police were alerted and Smith was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Following an investigation into the matter, Davis was arrested.

He was charged on Wednesday, April 13, 2023, after he was interviewed by investigators in the presence of his attorney.

The sentences that were applied to him in relation to the offences for which he pleaded guilty, were as follows:

For murder and illegal possession of firearm and ammunition he was sentenced to life imprisonment with eligible for parole considerations after serving 20 years and one month.For using a firearm to commit a felony, he was sentenced to 20 years behind bars.

The sentences will run concurrently.
