The Meteorological Service of Jamaica has said that two weather systems now in the Caribbean region pose no threat to the island.

However, the weather forecast for the country has a mixture of showers and possible thunderstorms for several parishes on Sunday.

Some rain is also expected to affect Jamaica on Monday, which is National Heroes Day.

At the time of the Met Service post on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, both tropical storms Nadine and Oscar had formed.

Oscar has since become what the National Hurricane Centre (NHC) called a "tiny" hurricane, resulting in hurricane warnings being issued for the Turks and Caicos Islands, south-eastern Bahamas, and eastern Cuba.

The short-lived Tropical Storm Nadine made landfall in Belize on Saturday, bringing with it heavy rains and tropical storms conditions across portions of the country and the Yucatan Peninsula.

The storm later lost strength, becoming a depression over northern Guatemala.

"There is no direct threat to Jamaica with the systems being some distance away. However, some rains are in the forecast through Monday," said the Met Service on X on Saturday.

It added that the two weather systems are a reminder that the hurricane season remains active with 42 days to go before it ends.

In the island's 24-hour weather forecast, the Met Service said isolated showers and possible thunderstorms are expected across north-eastern parishes on Sunday morning.

Widely scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected across sections of southern parishes and hilly areas elsewhere on Sunday afternoon, the Met Service added.
