Droop Lion implores : ‘Let the Children Dance’

Rastafarian firebrand singer Droop Lion believes that repeated exposure to the ills of the world has catapulted today's children into premature adulthood. He is driving home this point with his latest single, 'Let the Children Dance'.

"I am fighting for the freedom and happiness of children. We want them to live as children, and not be exposed to the ways of the adult world too early. They know too much, they've lived too much," Droop Lion said in an interview.

"It is difficult to be young today, to understand how pressured kids are by the world. People today don't understand what happiness is, youths in Gaza, North Lebanon, Israel, even in certain areas of Jamaica, have been robbed of their childhood."

Droop Lion believes an effort should be made to give children guidelines, provide suitable role models, and that "parents should 'parent' again".

"The youths need guidance and time to grow into themselves, but they are under the constant bombardment of violence, moral pollutants, emotional and physical trauma, so I wanted to speak to all these things. Give the children a chance to dance and they will be happy again," he said in explaining the inspiration behind the song.  

The single was released via the Born Music label on all digital platforms on October 15. Already, music critics have been hailing it as "a true masterpiece" because of the infectious and airy world music beat, savvy lyrics and booming drums.

Visuals were also released for the project, with shots of Droop Lion's community of Waterhouse and other areas of Kingston.

"The feedback has been great, the song is getting airplay in Nigeria, Brazil and on Kiss FM in England. The video is also doing well in the European markets," he said.

Meanwhile, the Free People Entertainment recording artiste will continue his exciting musical journey as he traverses Europe in 2025 to push his new album, 'As Is', making stops along the way in a number of countries, including the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Finland, Spain and Italy.

Droop is known for singles such as ‘Screaming’ and ‘Freeway’, which were inspired by the 2010 Tivoli Gardens incursion in West Kingston.
