Jamaica’s Under-17 football team will look to capitalize on the expanded format of the FIFA Men’s Under-17 World Cup when the Concacaf qualifiers begin next February.

FIFA has announced that the next five editions of the Men’s Under-17 World Cup will be hosted in Qatar, marking a shift to an annual format rather than the traditional biennial schedule. The tournament will also see an expansion to 48 teams, doubling the number of participants from the 2023 edition held in Indonesia.

The increased team count has resulted in Concacaf being allocated eight qualification spots for the tournament.

The young Reggae Boyz have been drawn into Group H for the qualifiers, where they will compete against El Salvador, the Cayman Islands, and St. Lucia. The tournament is set to take place from February 7 to 16, 2025.

The draw was conducted on Thursday at Concacaf’s headquarters in Miami, Florida.

The qualifiers will feature a revised format, with teams competing in a single round-robin phase. The participating nations have been divided into eight groups, and each team will play the others in their group once.

The winner of each group will advance to the FIFA U-17 World Cup, bringing the total number of qualifiers to eight.
