Seven people were arrested during a series of police-led operations in St Elizabeth on Friday.

Two firearms were recovered, 160 traffic tickets were issued, and 11 motor vehicles were seized during the police's efforts to maintain law and order, as well as ensuring the continued safety of citizens.

Head of the St Elizabeth police, Superintendent Coleridge Minto, told reporters during a stop on a police tour in Junction in the parish, that the operations began at 3am on Friday.

"So far we have gone across a number of our town centres and a number of our hotspot communities," he said.

"At this time, 160 (traffic) tickets have been issued, 11 motor vehicles seized, (as well as) two motorcycles," he added.

Minto said a targeted raid was done in the Gutters area, which resulted in two firearms being seized from a motor vehicle.

"Seven persons have been arrested so far, and the operations will continue," Minto stated.

He said the police will continue their operational activities throughout the weekend.
