Detectives from the St Elizabeth Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) have arrested and laid charges against two men in relation to a murder and robbery at a supermarket in Maggotty in the parish on Saturday, October 19 this year.
Charged is 30-year-old electrician Ramanno Smile, and 35-year-old Shawn Reid, a chef, both of Knockpatrick, Manchester.
Reports are that on the date mentioned above during daylight hours, two men entered a supermarket in Maggotty and posed as customers.
One of the men then brandished a handgun, and the other stood at the door as the lookout.
The man with the gun allegedly jumped the counter and robbed the owner of an undetermined number/amount of phone cards, cigarettes and money.
During the melee, 62-year-old Aggrey Atkinson, a businessman of Russell Hill district, St Elizabeth, was shot and killed.
The robbers then escaped in a waiting motorcar.
A report was made to the police and an investigation was launched.
They two suspects were apprehended on Thursday, November 14, and two illegal firearms reportedly seized in an operation.
Both men were subsequently charged with the offences of murder, conspiracy to commit murder, robbery with aggravation, possession of prohibited weapon, and unauthorised possession of ammunition following a question-and-answer session in the presence of their attorneys.
A court date is being finalised for the accused men.
