Falmouth All-Age School copped the winning trophy in the Trelawny Municipal Corporation's (TMC) Primary Schools’ Poetry Competition in a hard-fought battle on Wednesday at the municipal corporation's Falmouth headquarters in Trelawny.
Daniel Town Primary finished in second place, while Hastings Primary was placed third.
Seven schools participated in the competition which formed part of the TMC's host of activities in celebration of Local Government Month.
The winning entry, a dub poetry entitled ‘Good Governance’, was penned by the school's literacy specialist, Nardia Malcolm Witter, the institution's cultural agent.
Malcolm Witter was excited at the achievement.
"I am elated. I am so proud of the students. To be honest, we had a little over a week to prepare, so I had to drill them because I was on maternity leave and just got back," an excited Malcolm Witter told reporters.
For his part, Falmouth Mayor, Collen Gager, was satisfied with the day's activities.
"This is a part of Local Government Month celebrations. It is our open day, just one of the many activities we are having during November. We invited various schools to take part in the Open Day," said Gager.
"The students from all the schools are very talented and gave a good account of themselves," he added.
Dahlia McDonald, Director of Corporate Communications in the Ministry of Local Government and Community Development, accepts a Trelawny Municipal Corporation magazine on behalf of Local Government Minister Desmond McKenzie, from Falmouth Mayor, Collen Gager.
Another highlight of the day was the TMC's presentation of a magazine which contained projects that have been undertaken by the corporation over the last three years, to Local Government Minister, Desmond McKenzie .
Dahlia McDonald, Director of Corporate Communications in the Ministry of Local Government and Community Development, accepted the magazine, signed by Gager, on McKenzie's behalf.
