The Rotary Club of Kingston recently donated the 24th home under its Home for the Homeless project to a resident of Callaloo Mews in St Andrew.

The Home for the Homeless project is the club’s major project under the leadership of its President, Sixto Coy, for the Rotary year June 2024 to July 2025.

In a brief handing over exercise, Coy expressed pleasure at the club being able for support and protect the vulnerable, citing it as an ongoing commitment of the club’s mandate to meaningfully impact the lives of those in need.

According to him, “The Rotary Club of Kingston is pleased to partner with Food For The Poor Jamaica for the donation of this specially built home which will now provide a more stable and secure living environment for our beneficiary (Paulette Harrison).

“It is certainly an honour to donate on behalf of the club, this home to a deserving family which has waited for years for this to become a reality. Rotary is all about service above self, and this significant donation is a perfect example of how we can help to create lasting changes in people’s lives.”

In response, an overwhelmed Paulette Harrison shared her appreciation for the new home.

The home that was recently donated to Paulette Harrison, a resident of Callaloo Mews in St Andrew, by the Rotary Club of Kingston in partnership with Food For The Poor Jamaica.

“This home is truly a blessing for me and my family. We have struggled for over 18 years and now we finally have a place to call home. Thanks to the Almighty God, the Rotary Club of Kingston, and Food For The Poor for making this possible. I will ensure that I take care of this home to the best of my ability.”

Meanwhile, for her part, Development and Marketing Manager for Food For The Poor Jamaica, Marsha Burrell Rose, stated that, “We, at Food For The Poor, are extremely proud to partner with the Rotary Club of Kingston over the years in identifying suitable recipients for these meaningful initiatives.

“Providing a safe and secure home is one of the most impactful ways of uplifting families. I am particularly touched by the many people who have benefitted from our programme and, in particular, a community member who was homeless and living in excruciating conditions while studying, is now a university graduate. We look forward to continuing our ongoing partnership with the club.”

The Home for the Homeless project forms part of the Rotary Club of Kingston’s broader initiative to support vulnerable individuals and families by providing them with needed resources and opportunities to thrive in their communities. During the present Rotary year, the club plans to donate other homes across select communities in Jamaica through a strategic partnership with the Rotary Club of Naples North in Florida, USA and Food For The Poor.
