Security Standoff In Spaldings
Scores of residents are now gathered at the scene of an armed robbery in the town of Spaldings that is on the border of Clarendon and Manchester, where gunmen are believed to have barricaded themselves inside a business establishment.
A police officer was reportedly shot and injured during an earlier firefight with gunmen.
Preliminary reports are that about 2pm, the local police were alerted to a robbery that was being carried out at a supermarket in the rural town.
On the arrival of law enforcers, gunmen opened fire at them, resulting in a shootout.
It is not clear how many gunmen have resorted to barricading themselves inside the building, or whether hostages are being held there.
Similarly, it is not known if any of the suspected robbers were hit in the earlier firefight.
Members of the Jamaica Fire Brigade (JFB) and the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) are also on the scene as the situation unfolds.
