Shanoya Douglas of Muschett High secured an impressive double on Saturday at the PureWater/R. Danny Williams/JC Development Meet at the Ashenheim Stadium.
The 17-year-old, who claimed 200m bronze at the World Athletics Under-20 Championships in Lima, Peru, last August, won the Girls' Class Two 400m and 100m, capping off a successful weekend that included three wins across two days.
Douglas began her season on Friday with a commanding performance in the 200m time final at the Sprint Fest meeting, clocking 23.62 seconds in a negative 1.2 metres per second wind. Her time was easily the fastest across all four heats.
On Saturday, she followed up with a personal best of 54.56 seconds to win the 400m time final and rounded off her performance with an 11.56-second victory in the 100m time final.
Competing in Section A of the Girls' Class Two 400m, Douglas' 54.56 was too good for Jesena Williams of Vere Technical, who finished second in 55.78 to secure the second-fastest time over the six sections. Dena Hodges of Sydney Pagon STEM Academy, who won Section D with a personal best time of 59.12, secured third place overall.
In the 100m, Douglas' 11.56 seconds was easily the fastest over the eight sections. Dominican sprinter Kerelle Etienne of Edwin Allen High, who clocked 11.90 for second place behind Douglas in Section A, had the second-fastest time over the heats. Poshanna-Lee Blake of Hydel High, who also competed in Section A, finished third overall with a time of 12.12.
Sabrina Dockery of Lacovia High wins the Girls' Class One 100m time final.
Sabrina Dockery of Lacovia High delivered a standout performance in the Girls' Class One 100m time final, clocking 11.39 seconds (0.7m/s) to break the meet record of 11.58 seconds in her season opener. The Edwin Allen pair of Jounee Armstrong and Alexxe Henry of Trinidad and Tobago secured the second- and third-fastest times of 11.82, a personal best, and 11.85 seconds, respectively.
Danae Bartley of Vere Technical High claimed victory in Class Four with a personal best of 12.39 seconds, while Ferncourt High's Rihanna Scott dominated Class Three, posting a new personal best of 11.94 seconds, just shy of the meet record of 11.70.
Hydel High's Aaliyah Mullings produced the first meet record, winning the Girls' Open 400m in 58.78 seconds, improving on the previous mark of 1:00.68. Teammate Nastassia Fletcher finished second in 1:00.13, also below the previous record. Shevaughn Thomas of Vere Technical took third place with a personal best time of 1:01.29.
Tashana Godfrey of Edwin Allen High also set a meet record, winning the Girls' Class Three 80m hurdles time final with a personal best time of 11.34 seconds, breaking the previous mark of 11.48. Anneika Carnegie of Hydel High (PB 11.64) and Maya Oakley of Holmwood Technical (PB 11.83) secured the second and third fastest times, respectively.
Philipia James of Convent of Mercy Academy clocked a personal best of 11.03 to win the Class Four 70m hurdles. Wolmer's Tiana Marshall took the Class Two 100m hurdles in 13.61, while Santae Wilson (14.57) of Edwin Allen edged Hydel's Mullings (14.59 PB) for the Class One crown.
Edwin Allen High swept the 800m events, with Monique Stewart winning the Class One title in 2:16.09. Kevongaye Fowler took the Class Two crown with a personal best of 2:22.62, while Romeann Gray secured the Class Three title, also setting a personal best of 2:20.29.
Calabar High set five meet records on the boys' side. Robert Miller was the first to break a record for the Red Hills Road-based school, winning the Class One 400m hurdles in a personal best of 51.88 seconds, surpassing the previous meet record of 52.35 seconds. Jamaica College's (JC) Princewell Martin, also clocking a personal best, finished second in 51.98, also dipping below the previous mark. Brandon Harris of St Jago High took third in 52.39.
Ronaldino Barnett, Jamal Stephenson, Javane Clayton, and Rajeve Allison were responsible for the other meet records set by Calabar.
Barnett set a new Class Three 100m hurdles record, running a personal best of 13.23 to surpass the previous mark of 13.67. Daquan Dawkins of Kingston College (KC) was second with a personal best of 13.71, while Gianna Perry of JC finished third in 14.00, also a personal best.
Stephenson set a new Class One 100m record with a personal best of 10.43 seconds, breaking the previous mark of 10.55. Kenrick Sharpe of St Mary Technical, clocking 10.54, finished second, also under the previous record. Johan-Ramaldo Smythe of Muschett High was third in 10.55.
Clayton shattered the Class Three 100m meet record, running a personal best of 11.09, surpassing the previous best of 11.43. Clayton's teammate Joshua Ricketts (11.19) and JC's Darnell Douglas (11.22) also bettered the previous record, finishing second and third, respectively.
Allison claimed the Class Three 400m record with a personal best of 51.27, beating the previous mark of 52.58. Clayton finished second with a personal best of 51.37, also surpassing the previous record. Nicholas Jones of Lacovia High took third in 52.93, another personal best.
Four additional meet records were set. Jordan Rehedul of KC won the Class Two 400m with a personal best of 48.23, surpassing the previous mark of 49.48. Romario Hines of Munro College won the Class One 400m in a personal best of 47.99, breaking the previous record of 48.82. Roshane Francis of Wolmer's won the Class Two triple jump with a 13.27m effort, surpassing the previous best of 13.17m. Chavez Penn of JC set the Class One triple jump record with a 15.56m jump, bettering the previous mark of 15.27.
