Two foreign nationals are among four persons who have been charged under the new Firearms Act following an incident on Princess Street in downtown Kingston on Wednesday, January 8.
Charged are:
• Twenty-two-year-old Antuan Latchman of Woodville Road, London in the United
Kingdom.
• Thirty-four-year-old Javid Johnson, a medical doctor of Mount Vernon, New York in the
United States of America.
• Thirty-seven-year-old Shaday Rampassard, a nurse of Mount Royal Estate, Bridgeport in
Portmore, St Catherine.
• Twenty-six-year-old Akeem Sang, a higgler of Congreve Park, Bridgeport in Portmore, St
Catherine.
Reports from the Denham Town police are that about 11:35 pm, the four persons were
travelling in Suzuki Swift motorcar when a police team detected a breach of the Road Traffic Act
and intercepted the motorcar.
While speaking with the driver of the motorcar, the police team observed a firearm in a handbag
inside the vehicle. The gun was taken from the handbag and upon inspection, it was
found to be a Glock 19 pistol with a magazine containing eleven 9mm rounds of
ammunition.
The four occupants of the vehicle were taken into custody, and were later charged with the offences of possession of prohibited weapon and unauthorised possession of ammunition.
Their court date is being finalised.
