Jaydon Hibbert’s World Under-20 triple jump record of 17.75m has been officially ratified by World Athletics.
The Jamaican athlete, who celebrated his 20th birthday on Friday, set the record while winning the men’s triple jump at the Racers Grand Prix on June 1, 2024, at the National Stadium in Kingston. His leap of 17.75m surpassed his previous U20 record of 17.66m, set in Monaco on July 21, 2023.
Hibbert's series began with a 16.45m jump, followed by 17.14m in the second round and 17.30m in the third. He capped the performance with a 17.75m leap in the fourth round, setting both a meeting and world U20 record, despite a headwind of -0.7m/s.
“I was satisfied with the third and fourth jumps of the series,” Hibbert said. “I feel splendid. I wanted to jump 17.70m, so 17.75m is a bonus.”
Following the record-breaking jump, Hibbert went on to finish fourth in the Olympic final in Paris, with a jump of 17.61m, just three centimeters shy of the bronze medal.
His performance in Kingston placed Hibbert third on the 2024 world top list, behind Olympic medalists Jordan Alejandro Diaz Fortun and Pedro Pichardo.
Hibbert’s achievements in 2024 earned him a nomination for Men’s Rising Star at the World Athletics Awards.
