The police have arrested two individuals following a massive gun seizure at a Jamaican port on Monday, February 17.

The Jamaica Customs Agency (JCA), in collaboration with the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s (JCF) Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division, discovered a shipment from the United States containing 66 firearms - 16 high-powered rifles and 50 handguns - along with 4,700 rounds of 9mm ammunition.

Investigators have taken two suspects into custody and plan to lay charges in the coming days.

Additional persons are also expected to be questioned as the probe continues.

Law enforcement officials have issued a warning against the illegal trafficking of firearms into Jamaica, pointing to increased border security and strengthened international cooperation.

The authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to cracking down on gun smuggling, urging offenders to desist, as they will likely be caught and prosecuted.
