Young People in Business: Smith's Rum Cream
The three-year-old Smith's Rum Cream brand started decades ago in the family kitchen, with matriarch Jeanette Smith's much-beloved 'strong-back' concoction.
Then, her son Donald, a Northern Caribbean University biochemistry major back in 2010, opted to refine the homegrown recipe with his college friends as taste testers.
Their rave reviews and persuasion led Donald to formalise the rum cream into a business at the tail end of the pandemic.
Now an expanding lactose-free alcoholic brand — with four flavours, already on market in retail outlets including Sampars, Select Grocers and Things Jamaica — Smith is positioning the family-owned business that began in the Smiths' Clarendon home to become a known name beyond the island.
Watch the story of Smith's Rum Cream in this new episode of Young People in Business.
