

PAC Kingston Airport Limited (PACKAL), which operates the Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA), has advised of what it has described as a ‘fire incident’ that is ongoing at the Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA).
In a release late on Friday evening, the company said it has activated its Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) in response to the situation in the Club Kingston area of the terminal.
The company further said the terminal building has been evacuated in accordance with the requisite emergency protocols, “and there are no reported injuries at this time”.
Additionally, the company said airport emergency response teams and local the “local fire services are actively working to contain the situation”.
Notably, PACKAL cited what it said are images from Thursday’s scheduled emergency simulation exercise at the airport that are being circulating on social media, indicating that, “These images are not related to today's actual incident”.
The release said flight operations at the airport are experiencing temporary delays, “but we expect to resume operations soon”.
It stated that British Airways flight BA 2263 from London Gatwick Airport, American Airlines flight AA 1082 from Miami International Airport, and Delta Airlines flight DL 1906 from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, have all landed and the passengers are awaiting processing.
“We recommend that passengers contact their airlines for the most current information regarding their specific flights. We will provide additional information as it becomes available. Updates will be posted on our social media channels,” concluded the release.
