NRSC says about 102 children have died on the nation’s roads in the last five years

Vice Chairman of the National Road Safety Council, Dr. Lucien Jones says about 102 children have died on the nation’s roads in the last five years. 

He made the disclosure as he expressed sadness at the death of 14-year-old Edwin Allen High student Jaydon Smith in Clarendon on Sunday. 

Jaydon was a passenger in a Nissan Sunny motor car, travelling along the Chapelton Main Road towards May Pen, when the driver lost control of the vehicle which collided into a wall.

Both occupants were taken to hospital, where Jaydon was pronounced dead. 

According to Dr. Jones Jaydon’s death brings the reported road fatalities, since the start of the year, to 346.

He said Jaydon’s death brings into sharp focus the need for the nation to protect its children. 

He is again urging road users to obey the road code and is calling for sanctions to be imposed on those who do not.
