OUR says it lacks human resources to carry out verification checks for utility companies’ recovery claims
The Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR) says it lacks the human resources required to carry out verification checks for utility companies’ recovery claims.
Director General of the OUR Ansord Hewitt made the disclosure at yesterday’s meeting of the Public Administration and Appropriation Committee of parliament.
The utility companies have been reporting their progress in restoring electricity, telecommunications and water to the country since hurricane Melissa disrupted service on October 28.
There are still many communities without these services.
Mr. Hewitt underscored that the agency relies heavily on self reporting.
Meantime, Member of Parliament for St James Southern Nekeisha Burchell suggested the need for a system to validate the claims.
To this end Mr. Hewitt assured that the organization will take the suggestions into consideration.
