The Chinese naval hospital ship, Silk Road Ark, will provide various medical services, including surgeries to Jamaicans over the next few weeks, starting in St James, then in Kingston and Falmouth.
The ship arrived at the Montego Bay cruise ship terminal, yesterday.
Health Minister Dr Christopher Tufton welcomed the Silk Road Ark, describing it as a timely and highly technical addition to Jamaica’s healthcare capacity, following the passage of Hurricane Melissa.
Dr Tufton led a delegation from the ministry on a tour of the medical vessel.
He said the ship’s medical team is already treating out-patients, and will soon cater to elective surgery cases.
