Local Government Minister saddened by death of 9 yo following accident involving garbage truck in Manchester

Local Government Minister Desmond Mckenzie has expressed sadness at the death of 9-year-old Amoya Moore, who was killed in a motor vehicle accident involving a garbage truck in Manchester this morning.

The grade 4 student was on her way to the Villa Road Primary school for classes when the accident occurred.

Reports are that at about 7 A.M., Amoya was walking down a hill when an object fell from a truck which was collecting solid waste in the area, hitting her.

Police say Amoya fell and the truck ran over her.

Mr Mckenzie in a statement said it was difficult for him to adequately express his feelings about this tragedy.

He said from all indications, garbage collection was in progress when the accident occurred.
The vehicle has been impounded for the necessary inspection as part of the investigative process.

The Local Government Minister pointed out that while the incident is still being investigated, he feels the shock, disbelief and the grief radiating around Bonitto Crescent, and at Villa Road Primary school, at the unexpected and tragic loss of one of the community’s youngest members.

The Minister said he has seen some of the images of family members, community members, members of the NSWMA team and persons who passed by the accident scene and the trauma is evident.

He said he joins the many persons who have expressed great regret at this occurrence and invoked every comfort and sense of strength upon Amoya’s family especially, as they endure this period of painful loss.”
