St. Elizabeth is recovering steadily from Hurricane Melissa, with power restored to several areas and major roads cleared.
Head of the St Elizabeth police, Senior Superintendent Coleridge Minto, gave the update during a meeting with Prime Minister, Dr. Andrew Holness, on Friday.
SSP Minto said high schools have reopened, and only few people remain in shelters.
SSP Minto acknowledged that the devastation left behind by the category 5 storm has affected the mental health of many residents.
He said the police support the hosting of entertainment events to help people cope.
Meantime, Dr. Holness also expressed support for such events.
He urged promoters to implement the necessary measures to ensure patrons are safe.
