There has been a significant reduction in prices of some farm produce, due to a glut on the market.
Minister of Agriculture Floyd Green said the reductions range from 14 to 77 percent.
The glut resulted from a drop in demand for produce, mainly by hotels, which are ongoing restoration.
Speaking at the ministry’s hurricane Melissa recovery and sector update media briefing yesterday, Green emphasized that the performance of the agriculture sector is evident.
He stressed that while consumers can now enjoy more affordable prices, the market must be able to absorb what farmers produce.
Mr. Green noted that a series of farmers market will be set up, starting Friday, to help relieve the glut.
