A 100 million dollar recovery programme is being implemented by The Banana Board and the Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA), to revive the banana and plantain sector, after hurricane Melissa caused severe damage to production.

Agriculture Minister, Floyd Green confirmed that there is a severe shortage of bananas and plantains locally.

He said the initiative is designed to restore production quickly and ensure the resilience of the sector.

Mr. Green noted that the programme is aimed at supporting at least 5000 farmers across the island and rehabilitating more than 2500 hectares of farmland damaged by the hurricane.
